About the Institute
Founded in 1957, by Late Dr.T.M.A.Pai, the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT)
is reckoned for its academic excellence in engineering sciences, for shaping world class engineers and
as a center for research and specialized studies in engineering sciences. It is a constituent institution of Manipal University.
MIT offers several UG & PG courses, research programs in all science and engineering disciplines. The Department of Mathematics at
Manipal Institute of Technology [MIT] was initiated in 1957 with strength of three faculty members. Currently there are 38 faculties in the department.
The research areas include Numerical Methods, Graph Theory, Fluid Dynamics, Algebra, Topology, Number Theory, Functional Analysis, Fuzzy logic,
Complex Analysis, Operations Research etc. Faculties in the department teach M.Sc. Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics for both under graduate and
post graduate courses. Over the years, the department has contributed tremendously in imparting a strong Mathematical foundation to students,
a basic necessity for producing the best engineers who are now excelling in their professions not only in India but all over the world.
The department has also contributed in helping professionals in various inter disciplinary research areas.
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) was started as an independent department in 1988, though a B. Tech. Degree programme in
CSE was started in 1985, as part of the Department of Electronics and Communications, with affiliation to the Mangalore University.
Over the years the department has developed to become a center of excellence providing in-depth technical knowledge and opportunities for innovation and
research with well-equipped computer facilities and dedicated faculty. The department has tie-up
with Infosys, Microsoft, TCS, EMC Corporation and Phillips India Pvt. Ltd. Phillips has instituted scholarships, for those admitted to Masters’ degree in
Computer Science & Engineering programme at M.I.T. The department also conducts the Infosys Campus Connect Programme.
The department is offering Ph.D. programmes in all disciplines of Computer Science.
