About Kasturba Medical College and Kasturba Hospital Institutional Ethics Committee (KMC & KH IEC)

• Established in 1998, beginning initially to approve Regulatory clinical trials


• By 2003, started reviewing projects on vulnerable population and biomedical research in addition to the Clinical Trials


• 2013 registered under CDSCO


• Reviewing over 900 projects a year (biomedical and Indian Pharma sponsored/ Device trials consistently from 2015


• Projects from multiple disciplines including allied health, nursing, pharmaceutical branches, social, public health, traditional medicines, yoga, genetics, life sciences, engineering besides the medical and basic sciences research.


• Developed a dedicated software portal for submission of research projects.


• NABH accreditation – Feb 2019


• Registered under the ICMR-DHR from Jan 2020
