Nagara, an age-old term entrenched in the geographical fabric of the Indian subcontinent since ancient times, continues to echo through the contemporary urban landscape. Despite centuries of evolution, cities retain their intrinsic essence, shaping lifestyles and cultures that persist across millennia. As humanity navigates the daily grind, the question arises: are modern cities truly distinct from their historical counterparts? In the past century, new technological applications and uses have propelled society towards a complex and futuristic existence. NAGAR MANCH MANIPAL is an initiative by the Habitat Studies at Manipal School of Architecture and Planning, delves deep into the pulse of urban life and beyond. Manipal School of Architecture and Planning at MAHE, Manipal, Karnataka, is set to host an International Conference, delving into the intricacies of urbanism in Indian context. This year's thematic focus revolves around ‘Everyday Urbanism’ of Indian cities, investigating the social and political aspects affecting urban life. Esteemed academicians and research scholars will get together on a premier interdisciplinary platform. Inspired by the seminal works of Margaret Crawford, John Chase, and John Kaliski, ‘Everyday Urbanism’ celebrates the tapestry of daily life, accentuating indigenous attributes, appropriation, articulation, and temporality. Embedded in the dimensions of time and place, everyday urbanism nurtures vibrant spaces that encapsulate the essence of ordinary realities. The conference aims to unravel the social tapestry woven within urban spaces, fostering experiences and encounters aligned with the principles of everyday urbanism. Echoing Lefebvre's notion of the right to the city, the concept of the festival, and the revolutionary subversion of everyday life, the conference promises captivating discussions and practical insights. Prospective research scholars/academicians are invited to contribute original research papers spanning thematic tracks such as Digitalscapes and Daily life; Place Identity, Cultural expressions and Community Dynamics; Geographies of temporality; Everyday Infrastructure and Connectivity; Shared Urban Realm and Inclusivity. In essence, NAGAR MANCH MANIPAL focuses on everyday Urbanism endeavors to ignite conversations and actions that enrich Indian cities, underscoring the pivotal role of everyday urbanism in sculpting vibrant and sustainable urban landscapes.
