Manipal College of Health Professions

Manipal College of Health Professions (MCHP), formerly known as School of Allied Health Sciences (SOAHS), a constituent of Manipal Academy of Higher Education is the first institution exclusively dedicated to the education of Allied Health Professions in India. The school envisions training healthcare professionals who can create a difference in the quality of life of individuals, both physically and mentally. The institution offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree programs. It is attached to Kasturba Hospital, one of the best tertiary care hospitals of southern India.

MCHP has been rated as 'Excellent' by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), the statutory body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in April 2008.

The Ministry of Health, Government of India has considered the school as the model for its proposed National and Regional Institutes of Allied Health Sciences (NIAHS and RIAHS).

Department of Speech and Hearing

The department of Speech and Hearing is RCI accredited training centre which launched its undergraduate program in Speech and Hearing in the year 1992 and postgraduate program in the year 2002. The department is equipped with infrastructure in par with international excellence. To its merits, the department has numerous projects funded by national and international agencies. Apart from research excellence, the department also offers patient care through in-house speciality clinics and community centres in and around the district.


Audicon is an annual event hosted by the Department of Speech and Hearing, MCHP, Manipal. Being a centre of excellence, the department shoulders the responsibility of continuing rehabilitative education to prime the fellow professionals with trends in audiology. Every year, a chosen topic which is of both scientific and national interest is propagated through this event. The primary objective is to disseminate evidence based knowledge and facilitate uniform practice by the fellow professionals for the benefit of the end-user.

The conference is open for undergraduate, postgraduate students, and professionals in the field of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology.

Conference Highlights

In this three-day conference we aim to cover the on understanding the auditory processing disorder:

  • Assessment of APD (Behavioural & Electrophysiological methods)
  • APDs in special population such as Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, Autism, Aphasia, Stroke patients etc.
  • APD and its relation to cognitive abilities including working memory
  • Innovative Pedagogic approaches - Role Play Activities, Case based discussion.
  • Scientific poster presentation

With this background, we have invited faculties working in the area of auditory processing disorder from University of Auckland, New Zealand; Macquarie University, Sydney; Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune and AIISH, Mysuru as our key speakers.
