MANIPAL ORATION:   Dr. Sampath Kumar, Professor at Department of Surgery

The Manipal Oration is one of the key highlights of the Scientific Programme. Every year this session is delivered by a senior surgeon having vast hands-on experience. Their words of wisdom enlighten the delegates as does the extensive discussions on a wide range of topics such as

Cutaneous melanoma, retroperitoneal sarcoma, soft tissue sarcoma, upper GI bleed management, carcinoma esophagus, carcinoma stomach, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, obstructive jaundice, complications following cholecystectomy, cystic neoplasm of pancreas, parathyroid tumors, thyroid cancers, LABC, breast conservation surgery, diabetic foot ulcers, metastatic neck nodes of unknown origin, parotid swelling, renal cell carcinoma, testicular tumors, oral carcinoma and medico-legal aspects of surgery.

Distinguished external faculty and our entire department fraternity make these excellent presentations which have captivated the postgraduate audience.

The clinical cases presented here cover the entire clinical syllabus. Typical cases with classical findings include salivary gland tumors, oral lesions, breast and thyroid diseases, abdominal masses, hepatosplenomegaly, hernia, inguinoscrotal swellings, varicose veins, foot ulcers.

Postgraduate delegates present these cases wherein three invited faculty query them mimicking the actual university clinical examination pattern. This exercise increases the confidence level of the postgraduate delegates in giving clinical presentations.
