An international conference is being hosted under the Studies in Habitat with Academic Alliance in Planning Environment and Design (SHAAPED) which is a unit of Manipal School of Architecture and Planning, MAHE, Manipal, broadly aimed to communicate the knowledge bank created in the academics to the outside world and vice versa. This forum would hold activities to enhance research exchange and discussion across and within the department and for general public. It is an arena where conferences and seminars of key areas of interest and latest findings are portrayed. Publishing books, manuals and journals to answer queries and share ideas for application for general public and highlight best practices for area/ function specific application are some of the broad spectrums in which SHAAPED is structured. It also offers workshops and training for relevant subjects in the domain of built environment and allied subjects.

In the first segment of SHAAPED 2019, held in February, “Conversations in Conservation” was the theme. It was attended by over 80 delegates and four well know speakers from the domain had addressed the gathering. The proceedings of the same are also going to be published in few months.

As a subject for the second edition of this international conference “Design for Health and Well-Being” has been selected as the broad theme and will be held on March 12th and 13th 2020.

“Design for Health and Well-Being” deals with Smart and Sustainable Cities & Urban Design to create healthy environment, contribution of built environment for well-being in urban & rural areas, design of products in improving healthy lifestyle in urban & built environment, building design and smart technology, fashion and textile design for health. As part of this edition, we would like to charter our vision in to better living conditions in both urban and rural areas. These conversations are an important precedents for the future practices and mitigation measures in the related fields. This conference gives a platform where one can discuss and deliberate on the broad themes of the topics mentioned above, and it is also important to understand the need and know the best practices happening around the globe.

For this edition of SHAAPED 2020, eminent personalities Dr. TV Ramachandra, Energy & Wetlands Research Group from IISC, Bengaluru, and Mr. Sanjay Seth, Senior Director – Sustainable Habitat Programme, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) & Chief Executive Officer, Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) Council, and Dr. Helmut Brand Director, Prasanna School of Public Health, MAHE, Manipal have agreed to be the keynote speakers.
