The Department of Library and Information Sciences, MAHE, Manipal was established on 1st August 2011 with the launch of B.L.I.Sc. Program. The Department is situated in the Health Sciences Library building. Apart from classroom learning, students are also given practical exposure. MAHE libraries will be ‘working laboratories’ where students can apply classroom concepts through hands-on training. The department offers a two-year postgraduate program (M.Lib.I.Sc.) and a research program (Ph.D.). An updated, employable curriculum; practice-led teaching and practice-supported learning; hands-on experience through online and offline resources; exposure to advanced techniques in the fields of librarianship, computing, and internet; library software training facilities; library practice in world-class MAHE Libraries; and internships are some of the features of the department.
