This International Journal of System Assurance Engineering and Management is a quarterly Journal of the Society for Reliability Engineering, Quality and Operations Management (SREQOM), India; and the Division of Operation and Maintenance, Lulea University of Technology, Sweden.

Journal is established with a view to cater to the increased awareness for high quality research in the seamless integration of heterogeneous technologies to formulate bankable solutions to the emergent complex engineering problems. The Journal provides a platform for the modeling and analysis of large engineering systems, leading to the enforcement of performance enhancement measures. Achieving a fine balance between theory and practice is the primary focus of the Journal.

Abstract: In order to accomplish the organizational goals and to improve performance and productivity, it is necessary to implement Asset Management (AM) to balance risk, opportunities and costs. In recent years, the digital revolution has created an upsurge in the application of Information Technology (ICTs) to Engineering systems and processes. Therefore, we need better understanding of the potential of implementing different ICTs to assist in the essential digital AM functions, that is, Risk, Value and Facility management.

Producing value through AM is becoming more relevant in today’s world to support sustainable strategies. Moreover, industries are changing emphasis from selling products to selling services and this makes AM more and more important. In the last few years, following the trend of the digital revolution, a rush to Information Technologies (ICTs) adoption has occurred.

Digital engineering asset management (DEAM) is beneficial in realizing efficiencies of assets by capturing data that will enable remote planning, inspection and maintenance. In new plants, DEAM will enable importation of asset information and data, providing a tool for stakeholders to quickly visualize the life cycle strategy for an asset.

Digital twins (DT) are an accurate virtual representation of physical objects or systems and can cover the objects or systems life span. DT’s are updated from real time data using simulation and machine learning algorithms in order to make decisions. There are various types of DTs that are used in a host of AM applications in industries.

Maintenance, Reliability and Asset management have become essential areas of concern along with gaps in asset management systems aligned with ISO5000 standards for reducing costs and risks and enhancing performance. This issue will include an overview of the benefits of working within an asset management framework and technologies for balancing costs, risk and performance. The special issue will also focus on some of the aspects of DTs.

Topics covered:
1. Lifecycle cost analysis
2. Remaining useful Life analysis
3. Reliability and Resilience
4. Risk and Performance Assessment
5. Asset Life cycle cost and efficiency
6. Condition Based Maintenance
7. Cyber security Challenges and Risk Management
8. Digital Twins in Asset Management
9. Tribology and Maintenance
10. Asset management systems aligned with ISO5000 standards
