About MIT

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, was established in 1957 as one of the first pioneering self-financing engineering colleges in the country. In the year 2000, it became a constituent unit of the Deemed University - Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). With a total student intake of about 2500 per year, and around 10,000 students on campus, over 750 faculties, over 1000 support staff, and over 30,000 alumni, the Institute provides the right ambiance and platform for the students' all-round development. MIT has 21 undergraduate programs, 30 master’s programs, and Doctoral programs in all streams of Engineering and Science. The School of Mechanical Engineering at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal is one of the premier centres for mechanical sciences and interdisciplinary engineering education in India. Established through the integration of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Aeronautical & Automobile Engineering disciplines, the school offers a dynamic academic ecosystem with strong emphasis on innovation, research, industry collaboration, and experiential learning. The MAHE–Forbes Marshall Centre for Steam Engineering & Energy Conservation at MIT Manipal is a pioneering industry–academia initiative dedicated to advancing expertise in steam engineering and sustainable energy practices. Established in collaboration with Forbes Marshall, the Centre enhances the industry readiness of students and faculty through specialized training programs, faculty development initiatives, guest lectures, and industrial visits. Its flagship elective course on Steam Engineering and Energy Conservation provides practical, industry-oriented exposure to steam generation, distribution, measurement, condensate management, and energy efficiency practices. The Centre actively bridges the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications, fosters innovation and research collaboration, and promotes sustainable engineering solutions aligned with global energy and environmental goals, thereby preparing graduates for impactful careers in energy-intensive industries. The Centre organizes an annual Outstanding In-house Project Competition to recognize and encourage exemplary final-year student projects addressing real-world engineering and sustainability challenges. In addition, the Steam Club provides a vibrant platform for students to participate in technical activities, industry-driven research problem statements from Forbes Marshall, workshops, expert interactions, and hackathons, thereby enhancing their practical skills, creativity, and industry readiness.
